Let Spring Fever take over, and use our craft ideas to decorate your house and your children’s Easter baskets - with your imagination and some springtime muses, you can create wonderful, one-of-a-kind treats for your child and some great baskets to put them in!
When you think of Easter craft projects, coloring eggs immediately comes to mind. But did you know there are many different ways to actually color eggs? We can help you decide whether to decorate hollow or hard boiled eggs, and give you lots of great coloring and decorating ideas!
If you’re a beginner, dyeing eggs is a great place to start your craft project. If you’re feeling experimental, you might try a variety of methods, such as natural dyes, food coloring, crêpe paper, cold-dip and boiling methods - but if you know you’re a calamity in the kitchen, you may want to stick with just one!
Once you are comfortable with the dyeing process, you can take your skills to the next level with marbleizing, to produce some of the most lovely color combinations and fluid shapes on your egg - use your favorite tie-dyed t-shirt for inspiration while you swirl eggs in different dye baths; think of beautiful Italian marble floors while you sponge paint a Tuscany-inspired egg; dream of the opulence of silver and gold and use metal leaf to create treasures unlike any in the world.
Wax-resist coloring can render some of the most vibrant eggs because it allows you to contrast colors so sharply. It is the natural ancestor of Pysanky because it employs the technique of reverse dyeing that is required for the more difficult Ukrainian art of egg decorating. When you master the wax-resist concept, you can move on to Pysanky, which can take your egg decorating from a simple craft into a definite art form.
Once you have your eggs dyed, you can dress them up as egg critters like the Chic Chick or Peter Puff Tail. Use foam cutouts to add some dimension to your eggs, or come up with your own unique ideas to give your children’s Easter baskets some real character!
